Sarah's Story

To me CrossFit is not just a type of workout but a lifestyle that I have embraced wholeheartedly.  The coaches have an amazing way of helping me push myself past previous comfort levels thus exposing me to new fitness goals I never thought possible.

In 2007 at the end of my Marine Corps enlistment I had bilateral bunionectomies. These surgeries were a huge setback and without having any physical therapy, I never thought I could be comfortable running, dancing, hiking, and rock climbing ever again. I went to globo gyms about four to five times a week moving from machine to machine.  I was able to get slimmer but looking back I was not getting stronger I was just maintaining. Old goals were to be skinny and look hot in a bikini to do this I knew I had to go to the gym and workout. Now I don’t care about that. I want to be stronger and lift heavier. I have NOT become bulky like the bodybuilders on TV. I have become stronger mentally and physically. I have been going to CrossFit for 7 months, and have made gains in all areas; 40lb on push press, 20lb on back squat, 55lb on dead lift. My new goals are to do more dead hang pull-ups than my younger brother, lift my body weight over head (125), and dead lift twice body weight (250).

The coaches here have helped transform not only my running but also my mind set as an athlete. Positive changes in my mentality match my advances physically. Because of the constant coaching pushing to better myself, I have become a better student and consequently a better teacher myself.  In the short time I have been going to CFFWB my family, friends, and coworkers have noticed many changes in me. They have said that I am happier, more focused and passionate. My father the comic said I have become psychotic about food, but he thinks chili dogs and potato salad are nutritional. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of something so special. CrossFit has changed my life and none of this would have been possible without Jesse, Jordon, and Medea. I consider it an honor and truly a privilege to train here and I feel proud when I can answer someone by saying I train at CrossFit Fort Walton beach.
